Trip to Renovatus Farm
I made a trip out to Renovatus Farm on Thursday and had and incredible time! They had a new member in their program, named Mathew, and he was a pure delight! I truly think him and Nick will complete this program and do some great things!
I learned about what crops can be grown together (ex: onions/garlic and lettuce/cabbage) plus I learned that onions that grow a sprout are on their final leg! I added a picture with Tyler in it. Tyler is the farm manager and an incredible resource for farming tips, cave dwelling, and all things spicy! We picked and bundle collard greens, radishes, turnips, carrots, onions, lettuce, spinach, and arugula for the CSA members! I also got to enjoy a couple of strawberries, which were delicious!
We washed and bagged up the vegetables, making sure we get the dirt or potential slug from each one, and placed a name of each CSA Member on the appropriate bag. I learned a little more about how CSA works as some of the members showed up to pick up their veggies. Such as: the members pay an annual fee of $500 to get all this food, which was incredible value for the quality and freshness of each!
Tyler also added that he posts a weekly recipe so that members can utilize the vegetables that are less common!
I also met the 100+ new chicks that arrived at the farm and well as the 2 cows that are finally eating.
One of the cows had a bit of a skin problem that will certainly require attention, poor thing. He seemed to be struggling but should be fine with some medicine and time!
So much to talk about, so little time! Until next time, everyone!
